100 Life Hacks from 100-year-olds.

100 Life Hacks from 100-year-olds.

By DeAnna Kerley / Source: Mental Floss.

What's the secret to a long and healthy life? All centenarians have their own habits and morning routines they swear by. From whiskey shots to daily naps to ice cream, here's what some very old people credit for their lengthy lifespan.
IN 2011, HUFFINGTON POST INTERVIEWED A CENTENARIAN NAMED RUTH. SINCE THE AGE OF 92, RUTH HAS COMMITTED TO WEEKLY PILATES CLASSES. SHE ALSO HAS A MEAN SENSE OF STYLE.
1. "Don't look at the calendar. Just keep celebrating every day."
2. "Invest in quality pieces, they never go out of style."
3. "I make myself go out every day, even if it's only to walk around the block. The key to staying young is to keep moving."
NBC TALKED TO A 100-YEAR-OLD DOCTOR WHO STILL RAN HIS OWN PRACTICE. HE HAD A FEW UNTRADITIONAL PIECES OF MEDICAL WISDOM TO SHARE.
4. "Exercise, to me, is totally unnecessary. I think it's mostly overrated."
5. "The use of vitamins? Forget it. And I don't encourage going to a lot of doctors, either."
6. "Fall in love, get married. Sex is to be encouraged."
THIS CENTENARIAN SHARED ADVICE ABOUT LOVE, FORGIVENESS, AND PASSION:
7. "Even if you feel hatred, keep it to yourself. Don't hurt other people for any reason."
8. "Don't ever give up on love."
9. "Nobody else controls you."
10. "Make time to cry."
11. "Travel while you're young and able. Don't worry about the money, just make it work. Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be."
12. "Don't compare. You'll never be happy with your life. The grass is always greener."
13. "If you are embarrassed to be dating someone, you should not be dating them."
14. "Do one thing each day that is just for you."
15. "Don't be a cheapskate."
16. "Forgive."
17. "Find your passion and live it."
18. "Most time things will figure themselves out."
19. "Choose the right parents."
20. "Have a pet. Life gets lonely sometimes. Pets are reminders of how we're all living things."
21. "I'm not saying you have to practice one religion or another, or not practice one religion or another… I'm just saying that you should figure out what you believe in and live it completely."
22. "Learn to adapt."
23. "Take time to mourn what you've lost."
FOR ADRINE LEE, THE KEY TO LONGEVITY LIES IN FOUR SIMPLE STEPS:
24. "Keep going and never give up."
25. "Make yourself walk."
26. "I drink the faucet water."
27. "Don't just die because you want to."
AND THEN THERE'S ADVICE ABOUT HOW TO FIND HAPPINESS.
28. "Life is fun. It's all up to the person. Be satisfied. You don't have to be ‘happy' all the time, you need to be satisfied."
29. "Love people. Find something to like about the person—it's there—because we're all just people."
FOR OTHERS, THE KEY IS IN EDUCATION.
30. "Get a great education. That is something that no one can take away from you."
ONE CENTENARIAN WAS INTERVIEWED BY JAY LENO. SHE GAVE THE FOLLOWING ADVICE:
31. "Think positive."
32. "Exercise every morning… I have a machine… it's a cross between a rowing machine and a bicycle… [I do] 150, 200 [rows] every morning. I won't leave my bedroom until I've done that."

AND THEN THERE ARE THE 100-YEAR-OLDS WHO ARE EVEN MORE ACTIVE THAN THE AVERAGE 20-YEAR-OLD COUCH POTATO. THIS CENTENARIAN, AN AVID SKIER, HAD THIS TO SHARE WITH YOUNGER GENERATIONS:
33. "Be active. I do things my way, like skiing when I'm 100. Nobody else does that even if they have energy. And I try to eat pretty correctly and get exercise and fresh air and sunshine."
34. "If you're positive you can get through it OK. When you think negatively, you're putting poison on your body. Just smile. They say laughter is the best medicine there is."
SARDINIA, AN ISLAND IN EUROPE, IS WELL KNOWN FOR ITS HIGH PROPORTION OF CENTENARIANS. THEY OFFERED THEIR OWN ADVICE ABOUT HEALTH AND MEDICINE.
35. "For years I would not take any medicines at all. I don't think they do much, and lots of times the doctor is using you as a guinea pig."
36. "Don't die too early."
A COMMON TREND AMONG ADVICE FROM 100-YEAR-OLDS? KEEP ON TRUCKIN'.
37. "Just go ahead and do your thing no matter what."
38. "You can involve yourself in local problems. There are all sorts of things that have to be tended to in the world."
39. "Have lots of people in the house and lots of different kinds of people—young, old, black, white, people from all over the world. People have always energized me."
40. "Just keep going."
MANY CENTENARIANS SWEAR BY EXERCISE.
41. "I attribute my longevity to a great extent to walking, not being in the back of the car strapped down."
42. "I've done almost everything that I know of: ballet, I've done tai chi. I've done yoga. I walked 4 miles a day. I stretched and flexed. I wrote the book."
OTHER 100-YEAR-OLDS BELIEVE IN ROCK AND ROLL LIFESTYLES.
43. "I put my health down to whiskey and cigarettes. I only drink when I'm out, but my doctor said I wouldn't be alive without them. I'm still alive, and I can lift my elbows—it's great."
THIS 100-YEAR-OLD DOCTOR HAD A TREASURE TROVE OF ADVICE FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE.
44. "We all remember how as children, when we were having fun, we often forgot to eat or sleep. I believe that we can keep that attitude as adults, too. It's best not to tire the body with too many rules such as lunchtime and bedtime."
45. "For breakfast I drink coffee, a glass of milk, and some orange juice with a tablespoon of olive oil in it. Olive oil is great for the arteries and keeps my skin healthy. Lunch is milk and a few cookies, or nothing when I am too busy to eat. I never get hungry because I focus on my work. Dinner is veggies, a bit of fish and rice, and, twice a week, 100 grams of lean meat."
46. "There is no need to ever retire, but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65."
47. "When a doctor recommends you take a test or have some surgery, ask whether the doctor would suggest that his or her spouse or children go through such a procedure. Contrary to popular belief, doctors can't cure everyone. So why cause unnecessary pain with surgery? I think music and animal therapy can help more than most doctors imagine."
48. "To stay healthy always, take the stairs and carry your own stuff. I take two stairs at a time, to get my muscles moving."
49. "My inspiration is Robert Browning's poem 'Abt Vogler.' My father used to read it to me. It encourages us to make big art, not small scribbles. It says to try to draw a circle so huge that there is no way we can finish it while we are alive. All we see is an arch; the rest is beyond our vision but it is there in the distance."
50. "Pain is mysterious, and having fun is the best way to forget it."
51. "Don't be crazy about amassing material things. Remember: you don't know when your number is up, and you can't take it with you to the next place."
52. "Science alone can't help or cure people."
53. "Find a role model and aim to achieve even more than they could ever do."
54. "It's wonderful to live long. Until one is 60 years old, it is easy to work for one's family and to achieve one's goals. But in our later years, we should strive to contribute to society. Since the age of 65, I have worked as a volunteer. I still put in 18 hours seven days a week and love every minute of it."
OTHER CENTENARIANS OFFERED RELATIONSHIP ADVICE.
55. "This is some advice for the ladies. Don't marry an older man, marry a younger one."
WHAT ELSE? JUST LIVE.
56. "I try not to worry. I just try to live."
57. "I try to have enough trust and confidence in myself to deal with things as they come."
FOR OTHERS, OLD AGE COMES BY KEEPING A SIMPLE LIFESTYLE.
58. "I don't eat very much, but I always eat a fruit, a vegetable, and a little meat, and always make sure that I get sardine and salmon at least once or twice a week."
59. "For less than seven years I had a mortgage. I paid everything outright, and I've lived that way until today. That is the secret to longevity right there."
60. "Keep busy doing what you like."
OR IS OLD AGE JUST ABOUT LUCK?
61. "You gotta have good genes."
62. "You gotta be… lucky for 100 years."
63. "Try not to eat anything that's healthy. It's true. I eat whatever I want. The secret to longevity is ice cream."
64. "Quit while you're ahead."
65. "It's just as important to take care of your mind. I take two classes… and I've studied everything from anti-Semitism to current events."
THE MODERN DAY FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH? HUMOR.
66. "[Humor is] a life force, a way of surviving the difficulties of living."
67. "When you laugh at yourself, you prevent others from laughing at you."
68. "I think [people] have to be curious. They have to be interested in life outside their little aches and pains. They have to be excited about seeing new things, meeting new people, watching a new play—just passionate about life."
69. "I don't care what you're passionate about: maybe saving Dixie cup covers. But if you do it passionately, you're alive."
70. "Age is not a disease."
OTHER 100-YEAR-OLDS OFFER ADVICE ABOUT HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF.
71. "Don't get hurt."
ON REDDIT, A GRANDSON CREATED A THREAD WHERE HE ALLOWED PEOPLE TO ASK HIS 101-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER FOR ADVICE. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED:
72. "Be honest. I've rarely lied. And when you are honest with people, it comes back to you, and they are honest with you. It's too much work keeping up with a lie. You don't need the extra stress."
73. "Keep an open mind, and things seem less strange."
74. "Always listen to the other person. You'll learn something. Try to sit back, because you will learn a lot more listening to others than telling them what you know."
75. "You have to love what you do. if you find a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life."
76. "Take naps every day."
77. "You get one family, so stick with them. But it depends if these hardships are financial or emotional or other types. Stick it out. Some days are worse than others, and you have to be ok with that. The night is darkest before dawn."
78. "I try to take the time to look at and appreciate the smaller things that make this life beautiful. When I do that, time slows."
OTHER CENTENARIANS HAD THIS TO SAY:
79. "Do something interesting every day; otherwise you disintegrate."
80. "Learning new things makes you happy and keeps your mind active."
81. "Sleep well, try not to worry, and enjoy good dreams."
82. "I participate in lots of activities. I play Bingo, do meditation and crafts, and attend fitness classes, like Zumba Gold for seniors, chair yoga, and sittercise… I don't miss happy hour either! I drop in three times a week."
83. "Be lovable. I've lived a long life because there are so many people who love me."
84. "I take a drink of Scotch every day. And I feel great afterward."
85. "Keep kosher."
IN AN INTERVIEW FOR THE WASHINGTON POST, THIS 100-YEAR-OLD TOOK A REPORTER FOR A SPIN AROUND THE CITY IN HER CAR. SHE HAD THIS TO SAY TO HIM:
86. "I never drank, smoked, or fooled with the weeds, you know, that stuff. And I don't let anything upset me, especially traffic."
87. "I don't like stress. I can't stand arguing. If anybody is fussing, I'm gone. I like to be around positive people, people who lift you up not bring you down."
WHAT ELSE? IN THE END, MOST ADVICE SEEMS TO BOIL DOWN TO A COMMON CORE: LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST.
88. "Mind your own business, and don't eat junk food."
89. "Laughter keeps you healthy. You can survive by seeing the humor in everything. Thumb your nose at sadness; turn the tables on tragedy. You can't laugh and be angry, you can't laugh and feel sad, you can't laugh and feel envious."
90. "Look inside your soul and find your tools. We all have tools and have to live with the help of them. I have two tools: my words and my images. I used my typewriter, computer, and my cameras to fight injustice. Whenever I see a possibility of helping people who are in danger, I want to help them."
91. "Have a good appetite, lots of friends, and keep busy."
92. "Have a good wife, two scotches a night, and be easygoing."
93. "Never run out of responsibility; if you don't have one, find one. Find a cause and knock yourself out for it. It will enhance your brainpower, interest in life, and keep you alive longer. I'm alert because I work. Virtue is its own reward."
94. "It is very important to have a widespread curiosity about life."
95. "Keep yourself alert, active, and educated. Beat to your own drum."
96. "Don't smoke, don't drink, and don't retire."
97. "Take one day at a time, and go along with the tide."
98. "You have to be lucky, but I made the best of things when bad things happened. I also ate prunes every single day."
99. "Do what you have to do. Don't analyze it, just do it."
100. "Take it easy, enjoy life, what will be will be. Sleep well, have a Bailey's Irish Cream before bed if you have a cold—you will wake up fine the next morning."

50 Life Secrets and Tips to Make 2018 Your Best Year Ever

50 Life Secrets and Tips to Make 2018 Your Best Year Ever

By Jordan Lejuwaan / High Existence

Okay, here we are. It's 2018 and time to embrace your resolutions. And if you need some motivation, here are 50 amazing life tips and secrets to help you make this the best year of your life!
Memorize something everyday.
Not only will this leave your brain sharp and your memory functioning, you will also have a huge library of quotes to bust out at any moment. Poetry, sayings and philosophies are your best options.
Constantly try to reduce your attachment to possessions.
Those who are heavy-set with material desires will have a lot of trouble when their things are taken away from them or lost. Possessions do end up owning you, not the other way around. Become a person of minimal needs and you will be much more content.
Develop an endless curiosity about this world.
Become an explorer and view the world as your jungle. Stop and observe all of the little things as completely unique events. Try new things. Get out of your comfort zone and try to experience as many different environments and sensations as possible. This world has so much to offer, so why not take advantage of it?
Remember people’s names
so that they feel appreciated and for your own future benefit when you want something from that person. To do this, say their name back to them when they introduce themselves. Then repeat the name in your head a number of times until you are sure you have it. Continue to use their name in conversation as much as possible to remove any chance of forgetting it. If you’re still having trouble, make up a rhyme about their name: “Dan the Man” or “Natalie flatters me.”
Get fit!
It’s ridiculous to think that we have one body, one sole means of functioning, and people are too lazy to take care of themselves. Fit bodies lead to better health, confidence and more success with romantic endeavors. I’d say those are 3 very good reasons to get in shape.
Learn to focus only on the present.
The past is unchangeable so it is futile to reflect on it unless you are making sure you do not repeat past mistakes. The future is but a result of your actions today. So learn from the past to do better in the present so that you can succeed in the future.
Even more specifically, live in THIS moment.
Even 10 minutes ago is the past. If you live purely in this moment you will always be happy because there is nothing wrong in this split-second.
Smile more often.
Whenever you get a grin on your face, your brain is releasing serotonin, the happy hormone. Smiling is the natural way to force yourself to be happy. Many people even smile for five minutes straight in the morning to get themselves in a great mood for the day. It is a very powerful tool that is utilized less and less as we grow older and need happiness more than ever. Just remember that while happiness leads to smiles, smiles also lead to happiness.
Drink water.
Hydration is tremendously important for overall health. Soda has absolutely ZERO nutritional content; it’s like pouring a punch of sugar and syrup into your cup. Instead, fill it with life-replenishing water. It may taste plain at first if you’re coming off of a heavy soda-drinking streak, but you’ll soon find yourself addicted to it. 10 glasses per day is optimal, how many have you been getting lately?
Don’t take life so seriously!
Learn to laugh at the little things and this whole “existence” thing will be a whole lot easier. Be amused by your mistakes and failures and be thankful that you learned your lesson and won’t mess up like that again. And most importantly do things that you enjoy! Life is not strictly business, it can be mixed with pleasure.
Think positive thoughts.
When you find yourself thinking a negative thought, stop it immediately by any means necessary. Slap yourself in the face, yell something positive at the top of your lungs or jump up and down. Do whatever it takes to get back to a positive mindset as such is essential for continual happiness and success.
Read books.
Knowledge is power. If you’re looking for some mind-blowing books to read, check out 10 Books that Will Change How You Think Forever.
Get in the sun.
Superman was completely re-energized when he flew out to space and soaked in some rays and you can do the same right outside your front door (if you live in a constantly dreary place, my apologies). The sun feels amazing: your entire body will be coursing with warmth and life.
Help others.
I’ll just give you a plethora of reasons why this is a MUST
1. Helping people has a ripple effect. If you help someone they will feel more obliged to help someone else, and so on. Pay it forward
2. You grow by giving and helping others. It can change you in ways you never expected
3. Your relationship with that person will become stronger
4. It’s the most fulfilling thing you can do on this planet. It not only feels amazing physically, you also feel like a good person
5. You might be able to call in a favor later when you need some help
6. Karma (if you believe in it)
7. Because there are more people in this world than just you
Set aside a specific time to worry each day.
Ponder all of your problems and anxieties during that time so that they will not distract you during work or moments of pleasure. This way you can be extremely efficient with your time and avoid focusing on negative things as much as possible. If you get all of your worry out of the way and have the mental fortitude to keep from reverting back to them, you will be much happier on the daily.
Be honest at all times.
Lies lead to nothing but trouble. Being known as trustworthy is an excellent trait to maintain and essential to having integrity.
Sleep less.
Fully adjusting to a new sleep cycle can take up to 21 days so don’t give up if you feel tired after switching to 5-hour nights. The “required” 8 hour/night is for normal people. If you’re reading THIS article on THIS site, you are not normal. So figure out how much sleep YOU really need and adjust accordingly. As enjoyable as sleep is, waking existence is much more fulfilling and efficient. IF this really sparks your interest, check out alternate sleep cycles with which you can be fine off of 2 hours of sleep per day.
Read Bringers of Light and Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch.
These books will help you decide what you want to do in this life and how to get to that point. They will also profoundly change the way you look at the purpose of existence. Read them!
Figure out what your goals and dreams are.
So many people wander aimlessly through life simply go for whatever small thing they want moment by moment. Instead, decide what your perfect life consists of and begin to put the steps in motion to reach that place. The most satisfying thing in the world (yes, better than sex, much better) is overcoming a challenge and reaching a goal. We are the happiest when we are growing and working towards something better.
Start your day off right.
Wake up and set aside an hour for personal development activities (meditation, self-introspection, observing nature, etc.) Do the things that make you feel blissful, optimistic and empowered so that you can set a positive tone for your day. I guarantee that once you start doing this, your days will be more enjoyable and fulfilling. Today is going to be the best day of your life.
Utilize ‘The Burning Method.’
Whenever a fear or worry or complaint comes to mind, close your eyes and imagine writing down the thought on a piece of paper. Then proceed to light the paper and fire and watch it disintegrate. Even better, actually write it down and burn it. You won’t have any problem ridding your mind of the thought after doing this.
Travel. Frequent Flyer Master
Anyone who has ever gone anywhere will tell you that traveling is one of the most exciting and life-changing activities that you can do. Observing a different culture will expand your mind while making you further appreciate the life you already live. This goes back to becoming an explorer: this world is your jungle so go explore! Who knows, maybe you’ll find a place you love so much that you decide to move. Imagine the positive repercussions a new environment could have on your life.
The Rubber Band Method
This is the third and final way to rid yourself of negative thoughts (hopefully by now you have figured out that this is very important!). Place a rubber band around your wrist and snap it against your skin anytime a negative thought finds its way into your head. This operant conditioning technique associates a slight pain with negative thoughts like Pavlov associated food/salivation with the sound of a bell. Sounds a bit cruel at first but it only stings for a second, I promise. Plus the outcome, having only positive thoughts, far outweighs a little slap on the wrist here and there.
Learn to be unaffected by the words of others.
Most people get very upset when they are called negative names by others, but there is a simple trick to overcoming this. Here it is: If I went up to you and called you a fire hydrant, would you be upset? Of course not. Obviously you are not a fire hydrant, you are a human being. The same concept applies to when someone calls you something that you know you are not. They are foolish for saying such things, so why would you react with such anger? The only exception is when someone calls you something that is true! In this case, you should thank them for alerting you to a weakness, one that you can now work on changing.

Read Zen and the Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss.
This book will give you the knowledge and instruction to be happy at all times regardless of the circumstances. Yes, this sounds like an oversimplification of happiness, but I assure you that this book will change you in an amazing way.
Develop the ability to forgive.
Forgiveness is something that most people fail miserably at even thought it’s so simple. Grudges only bring more misery to those who hold them and prevent good relations with the target. YOU makes mistakes all of the time so why not have mercy when other do? Remaining angry feels horrible while forgiving someone brings a refreshing sensation to the mind and healing to the relationship.
Be the person that makes others feel special.
Be known for your kindness and sympathy.
Learn to lucid dream
or to realize when you are dreaming so that you can control your dreams. Sleep feels good, but it’s rather boring and unproductive. With lucid dreaming under your belt, night-time can be even more exciting than when you are awake. You can do anything: fly, travel to other planets, party with a celebrity, get intimate with your dream boy/girl, etc. Many lucid dreams have also reported being able to speak directly with the subconscious during dreams by demanding to be taken to it after becoming lucid. For those that know a thing or two about your subconscious, that is a BIG deal. Learn how to control your dreams here...
Visualize daily.
It has been said and proven time and time again that what you focus on is what you get. If you complain all of the time, you will run into more of the things you complain about. The same goes for good things like health, wealth and happiness. So spend some time in the morning imagining yourself achieving whatever it is that you currently desire. Focus is key in this exercise, so choose a quiet environment where you won’t be disturbed. If you’re having trouble focusing and continually find that your mind has wandered to something else, read about meditation in the following life tip. There is a lot more to this concept, so check out the full article on visualization and the law of attraction here.
Meditate everyday for at least 20 minutes.
In this modern world where everyone is so connected to everything else via cell phones, TV and internet, most people rarely enjoy the beauty of silence. The ability to quiet your mind and relax your body is an art and skill that everyone should develop. Simply sit somewhere, preferably in nature, and focus on your breathing or try to think about nothing. This is going to be extremely hard at first! You might find it boring or just plain impossible to think of nothing, but you will get better and you will learn to love it. Post-meditation, you will feel extremely clear-headed and.. well, just plain wonderful. The only way to really understand this sensation is to try it.
Learn to control your mind.
What kind of skilled human are you if you cannot even control your own thoughts? While the human mind is described as being a stream of consciousness, that does not mean you can’t decide where your stream flows. Techniques like meditation and the 3 ways to flush out negative thoughts will aid you immensely in learning to control your mind.
Learn to control your emotions.
The only person that can make you unhappy is you! You are the one that decides to be affected by the words and actions of others. Realize this so that the next time you experience a negative emotion, you can find the strength within yourself to overcome it.
Take a class in speed reading.
Books are full of information that can enhance your knowledge-base, vocabulary and yourself as a person. Speed reading is an easy way to get at this info faster so that you can have more time for other endeavors.
Relax!
This one is for you workaholics out there (myself included). Yes, work is very important and productive but you need to take some time to chill out everyday or you are going to burn out faster than a candle with no oxygen. Additionally, you need to reward yourself for a job well done. What’s the use of doing all of that work if you can’t have a little fun from time to time anyways?
Work on making good first impressions.
Practice a strong, firm handshake and the small talk that generally goes along with meeting someone for the first time. People won’t know what to think of you if you have nothing more to say beyond “My name is _______, nice to meet you.” Also make sure you remember names, as mentioned previously. Who knows, you may be going into business with or marrying this person you’re meeting for the first time if you make a good impression. Be sure and make an excellent one.
Learn to use your eyes to their full potential:
Make constant eye contact when in conversation. Looking away (especially down) is a sign of inferiority and uncertainty. Instead, look at your conversation partner dead in the eyes and keep them locked on
1. Master the piercing stare.
You know when someone looks at you and it feels like they can see into your soul? Well that’s not a hereditary characteristic, it just takes practice. Work on sharpening your gaze in the mirror. You’ll know you have it when it’s intimidating to continue looking at yourself
2. Master the one-eyebrow raise.
This one isn’t necessary by any means, but hey, why not? Pick a brow to learn with and go look in a mirror. Raise both of your eyebrows but use your hand to hold down the brow that you want to stay down. This will probably feel very stupid at first but if you keep trying, you will eventually pin down the muscle you need to flex to get that one brow up
3. Be mysterious.
Don’t let off everything about you and definitely leave out some major details. There is something both alluring and mesmerizing about someone who no one knows fully about. I’m not saying to confide in no one or to alienate yourself. Just think James Bond.
Come up with a life mantra.
You know, like “Carpe Diem” or “Live life to the fullest,” but not as cliché. Make it something that really hits home with you so that you will actually stick to it. Make sure it’ not so specific that it rarely applies but also not so general that it’s not personal.
Get good at something.
Call it a hobby or a passion, whatever it is, just get damn good at it. Your occupation does not count! Make it something that you can practice often enough to excel at. Examples: Magic tricks, surfing, ping-pong, creating short films, and unicycling. It can be anything but I would recommend choosing something that: 1) You are passionate about 2) You can bust out at any moment to display your skills for any discerning crowd. My mind goes immediately to aerobatics and break dancing, but that’s just me.
Work out those abs.
Above any other muscle group in the entire body, the abs are the most important. They constitute your core, the center point of your body. Your ability to balance comes almost completely from the strength of your abdominal muscles and balance is vital to performance in any physical activity. Summary: they’re very important. For more info on how to work out your abs, check out this video.
Keep your brain sharp.
The majority of people are stuck in ruts. They go to the same job everyday, hang out with the same friends and eat at the same places. While that may feel safe, it’s not the most stimulating lifestyle for your brain. Those synapses have been built up enough, so try something that you do NOT know how to do! Buy a model car kit, master the art of sudoku or crosswords, or go pick up another major at your nearest college. The point is you need to be learning new things to keep your brain honest. Form new synapses by forcing your mind to work in ways it has not worked before. Just like physical workouts, doing too much of the same exercise will eventually give no results. Switch it up!
Read something inspirational right before bed and after waking.
This will set get you in a great mood for sleep and for the day. Read anything from a famous speech to your favorite self-improvement book. Try to read something that get’s you really excited in the morning especially so that you’ll leave your house beaming with energy and wonder.
Do what you love.
There is a huge difference between making a life and making a living; which one are you making right now? So many spend their entire lives trying to make as much money as possible so that they can afford to do what they really want later. It makes no sense to settle in life until you’re 65 so that you can retire and do what you want when you’re already WAY past your prime. We only live life once so why wouldn’t you want to spend it pursuing your bliss? To do anything else would be a tragic waste of the freedom you are allowed if you are reading this right now. Follow your bliss and you will be a thousand times more happy than your retirement date and 40+ years younger. But first you need to figure out what you love to do…
Choose your friends wisely.
You are affected far more than you think by the people you spend your time with. Do your friends share your values? Do they encourage you when you speak of your goals and dreams or do they scoff? Make sure the people around you are conducive to the lifestyle you want to lead or you will find yourself being dragged again and again into behavior that distances you from your desires. Friends with a habit of producing negative thoughts will especially hinder you. This can be a hard task to follow through with if you realize you good friend is one of these saboteurs, but you must be firm! Don’t let anyone get in the way of you being all that you can be.
Don’t burn bridges.
By that I mean maintain your relationships with people even if you think you are never going to see them again. For example, if you are quitting your job, don’t chew out your boss before leaving! You might run into him/her again later and life and wish you had never severed ties so harshly. You never know when you might need the help of someone you knew in the past. Plus there is already too much hatred in this world, why add more towards the people you interact with?
Keep a journal/diary.
It sounds like a very monotonous habit at first, but when you get into it, that little book will become a great way to organize your thoughts and track your growth over the years. Most of us already stay awake in bed at night pondering the events of the day anyways so why not document those thoughts in an organized fashion? That will allow you to look back and observe how your way of thinking has changed over time.
Read New Pyscho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz.
This book will explain why the content of your thoughts has such a profound effect on your life through religious, philosophical and scientific arguments. A must read for completely understand who this life thing works.
Learn to use and trust your subconscious/intuition.
When you spend time in silence everyday, listen not for words but for a feeling that tells you to do something. Do not mistake your own reasoning and thoughts for those of your subconscious. If you can track where the thought came from, (this thought led to that thought which led to this thought, etc.) then it was not from your subconscious. Learning to accurately discern between the two will allow you to tap into knowledge that you don’t consciously have.
Develop a charismatic personality.
You know, the kind of personality that is surrounded by people constantly and is the life of the party. Start visualizing yourself as THAT person. Maybe take a short course on dynamic speaking and learn some jokes. Take the time to learn some party tricks and sleight of hand. Most importantly, believe that you already are charismatic even if you fail at being the center point of the next party. Lie to yourself constantly and tell yourself that you are more warm and gregarious than Ronald Regan. Belief is the first step! Reality will come soon after.
Love is all there is.
If you truly want to be a master of life, let love be in your every action. Love your friends, family and enemies alike. This is the most difficult thing to do out of this entire list, which is why it is listed at #50. But if you accomplish this, you will be seen as a leader among everyone that allows hate, envy, disgust and all other negative emotions into their lives. Think Gandhi. Love is so rare in this world when compared to the massive presence of hate that by exuding love, you will immediately see yourself and the people around you change. Love. Love. Love.

Repenser notre rapport à l’argent.

REPENSER NOTRE RAPPORT A L’ARGENT.

Corrigez si je me trompe.

24
''Put a good person in a bad system, and the system will win every time''. W. Edwards Deming

23

The Secret code of success : 7 hidden steps to more wealth and happiness by NOAH St. JOHN.

The Secret code of success : 7 hidden steps to more wealth and happiness by NOAH St. JOHN.

Excerpts of the book Prosperity consciousness by Thomas Michael Murasso.

Excerpts of the book Prosperity consciousness by Thomas Michael Murasso.

Realize however, that wealthy people never feel uncomfortable concerning money. It’s not because they already have money either. People don’t feel comfortable about money because they have it. They have money because the feel comfortable about money!
Wealthy people have developed a Prosperity Consciousness concerning money and it stands to reason if you want lots of money you will need to develop Prosperity Consciousness as well.
How do you go about developing Prosperity Consciousness? The best way is with the power of thought.
Start seeing yourself as if you already possessed the amount of money you desire. When you succeed in convincing your subconscious mind that you are wealthy and that it feels good to be wealthy, your subconscious mind will unfold and make the image you have formed manifest into reality.
If you want more money, it is imperative that you release any and all fear and worry about whether or not you will get it.
Know that you are responsible for creating your life. No one and no thing can change your reality but you. Most people who fail to accumulate the money to live the life they desire are the same people who are easily influenced by other people’s opinions.
When you think prosperity and begin to hold thoughts of yourself as wealthy swimming in a sea of abundance, your mind and body will instantly vibrate the ideal you hold and you will begin to attract everything you need to become wealthy.
But believe me, developing awareness of prosperity in your mind always proceeds creating wealth in your reality.
We must, therefore, develop an understanding of how we have been taught to think and how to change the way we have been conditioned to think about money.

A positive thought like joy, happiness and wealth creates a high vibrating frequency. The frequencies you create with your thoughts match like vibrations and are attracted to your vibrations.
Spirit = the thought of prosperity
Mental = the idea of financial freedom
Emotions = feels good
Physical = the manifested result: money and abundance

Physical = the manifested result: empty bank account
Emotions = feels bad, worrisome
Spirit = the thought of lack and loss
Mental = the idea of poverty

Since the thought of lack and loss is now the vibrational frequency they are holding in their subconscious, they are actually attracting the very thing they do not want; an empty bank account.
You must understand that your current state of affairs is the manifested result of previous thinking. If you truly want to change you results, you must change your thoughts, and you must change them now!
Deliberately form an image of yourself already in possession of the amount of money you want and living the life-style you desire

On the other hand, you also have the ability to form an image of yourself in debt and wondering how you’re going to pay the mortgage. It’s a simple choice of which image you
should hold in your mind.
Just build an image of prosperity in your mind and watch what is attracted to you. You may see some set-backs along the road, but you must continue to hold the image of prosperity. Persistence is the key.
Do not let anyone or anything discourage you… not even that inner voice of doubt.
I realize that it is not always an easy thing to do because it takes great mental strength. It means taking control of your mind to create and hold the image of what you desire. Build an image of what you desire and then act as if you have already received it.
The image of prosperity you hold in your mind can only come to you (physical manifestation) by way of the law and your belief and faith in it.

Faith is the ability to see the invisible force at work in the universe
. Faith is the ability to believe in the incredible.
As long as you keep the image of the good you desire in your mind, you will always receive your desire.
You understand you cannot have wealth in the physical world until you have first visualized wealth in your mind. You must create an image of your desire.
It means that before we can overcome limitation and the poverty consciousness that is buried deep within.
Identify desire and form an image, give your desire attention, energy and focus and without a doubt, expect to receive it.
That’s good news because you have the ability to change your thoughts which change the vibrations you send and consequently your results will change. You can improve your life just by changing your thoughts.
The images you form in your mind set up a vibration by which the Law of Attraction manifests the form in your reality. If your image is focused you will receive the desired results.
You will never get into harmony with prosperity if you insist on thinking of lack and limitation.
When we fix it firmly in our minds that the service that money provides is different from the love of gain, profit and advantage, then we can positively view money as a tool, not as a goad or something to hoard.
The Bible says you ‘cannot serve God and mammon.’[Luke 16:13] Mammon represents hoarded money—that which is not placed into circulation. Money in circulation is God in action. Money, which is hoarded, is useless, for money is merely the medium of exchange.

Excerpts of the book The power of thought by Henry Thomas Hamblin

Excerpts of the book The power of thought by Henry Thomas Hamblin

The power of thought, as Emerson says, is a spiritual power. It is the greatest power that man has at his disposal. What a man thinks, he becomes; what a man thinks is the mainspring of all his actions; what a man thinks attracts to him his circumstances and environment; what a man thinks determines what type of friends and companions will gather around him; what a man thinks decides whether he shall be happy or miserable, successful or unsuccessful, healthy or unhealthy, prosperous or poverty-stricken, hated or loved.
What a man thinks can overcome fate or strengthen it, can bring him into alignment with his glorious destiny, or make him an outcast and a wanderer in desert places. Indeed, there is no limit to the power of thought, because it is a spiritual power of intense potency.
it is the power by which he can mount up to God, it is the power which can make the unsuccessful successful in the battle of life, it is the power which can make the loftiest achievement possible, it is the power by which difficulties can be overcome, disadvantages of birth and parentage surmounted,
By thought man either blesses or curses himself. By it he brings into his life either success or failure, health or disease, happiness or unhappiness, poverty or prosperity.
Within ourselves is the cause of the disorder in our own individual world--for we each live in a little world of our own creation-- therefore, the disorder and trouble that afflicts us, or the lack that restricts our life, can never be overcome, save by a change of mind, habit of thought, and mental attitude.
THERE is the conscious mind and there is the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the mind of action. It is responsible for all that we do. It is a reservoir of tremendous power, it is of extraordinary intelligence. by controlling it, we control our actions, and by controlling our actions we shape our life, and overcome what is called fate.
The subconscious mind, although so wonderfully intelligent and possessed of such extraordinary powers, acts entirely upon suggestion. That is to say, it follows blindly and faithfully the thoughts that are sent down into it. Therefore upon our thoughts depends what sort of actions are brought forth.
if good thoughts are entertained, then constructive good action will result, and if strong, successful thoughts are entertained, they bring forth robust, constructive action, which leads to success and achievement.
It depends upon which class of thought we persistently dwell upon and pass to the subconscious mind, what our actions in life are to be. If we allow our mind to dwell on destructive, negative thoughts, and this, unfortunately, is often the case as it requires no effort, then destructive and negative action will be the inevitable result.
On the other hand, if we think positive or constructive thoughts--and, to do this, effort is required, just as effort is required in climbing a hill--constructive action takes place as a natural result.
On the other hand, if he will banish every weak negative thought, every thought of possible failure, and constantly brace his mind by affirmations of success--in other words, send down strong suggestions of success to his subconscious mind--such a man will succeed in life, because his actions will be strong and decisive
Whatever we think becomes sooner or later translated into action; and as upon our actions our life depends, it will be seen that it is possible by thought-control to govern our life.
Life is not a matter of chance or luck; it is not something out of our control; it is largely the result or effect of our thoughts. Therefore, by controlling our thoughts--and this, thank God, can be done--we can govern and direct our life to an almost unbelievable extent.
It is not generally known that our thoughts can be controlled and regulated
Our thoughts can be controlled and regulated in much the same manner, Undesirable, destructive thoughts can be arrested, while other thoughts of a desirable and constructive character can be encouraged.
Not only is it possible to change the subject of our thoughts, but it is also possible to refrain from thinking altogether. Both are accomplishments of the highest possible value and they can be acquired only by practice and self training; but, even the weakest of us can acquire them if we are quietly persistent.
when we become master of our thoughts we become master of ourselves, and when we become master of ourselves we become master of life itself
In a thousand and one different ways we are affected by suggestion.
We are victims of it at every turn, unless we learn to become positive-minded and proof against suggestion in all its forms.
The poverty stricken person is advised to whisper to himself, as he falls asleep, suggestions of wealth, prosperity and plenty. If the subconscious, or, as some say the unconscious, mind accepts the suggestion, then poverty is at an end.
If, for instance, we do not overcome life's difficulties in our thoughts, then we can never overcome them in actual experience. By this I mean that our difficulties must be boldly met and conquered in thought, if ever we are to hope to overcome them actually.
if a man's mind is steadfastly directed towards a certain object, not only will he be truly successful, but the most remarkable things may happen or be achieved, beyond anything that might be hoped for or expected.
By worrying over our troubles we not only stimulate fear, one of the most destructive of the emotions, but we also wear grooves in the brain, round which our thoughts revolve in endless repetition.
the religiously-minded person encounters a thought of difficulty, trial or fear he can meet it boldly with the counter thought or affirmation: "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me, therefore I will go right through this trouble in the power of Christ which is mine to use now and always." At the same time he can picture himself going through his difficulty with a push, being carried along by invisible powers.
Another type may not be able to use the religious form of affirmation, but he may use something similar but in a different form. He may meet the thought of trouble or fear by merely repeating the words: Success, victory, overcoming; at the same time picturing himself going through his trouble or difficulty triumphantly, sustained and strengthened by powers he does not understand, but which well up within him.
Some people think in the form of mental pictures. The nature of their life and the character of their circumstances, depend upon the character of their mental pictures.
If instead these mental pictures of failure, poverty, disaster, accident, disease and death are transmuted into pictures of success, prosperity, health, protection from danger and a happy old age, then these desirable states tend to manifest in the life, in place of the undesirable ones which might have appeared otherwise.
Our first thought in every circumstance of life will be, not what can I get out of it, but how much can I help
THOSE who succeed possess a certain type of mind
They think in terms of success and achievement, abundance and prosperity. The life tends, in course of time, to express the type of thought habitually dwelt upon. If we think consistently in terms of success and prosperity, then, sooner or later, we express these things to a greater or lesser degree in our life.
Men of equal abilities are not equally successful. One may appear to be lucky, while the other may appear to be most unlucky: but I am convinced that the cause of the difference is to be found in the mind.
The one has a fixed idea of success and achievement which acts as a centre around which his thoughts, both conscious and subconscious, revolve; while the other has a fixed idea or fear of failure, around which his thoughts continually turn.
Now, while it is true that one may be born with a successful type of mind, while another may inherit a failure type, yet it does not necessarily follow that the latter must always remain a failure. His type of mind can be changed. In order that this may be accomplished he does not have to enlist the services of an expensive mental specialist or practitioner; he does it himself, by a change of thought.
